Morgan from Hyacinth Girl is a Wellington-based beauty blogger who we’ve been obsessed with for quite awhile. Chances are, you’re already a fan. But if not, make sure you head over to Hyacinth Girl and check her out!
Today Morgan is taking over the blog and sharing her Everyday Face – featuring some of the skincare that she uses on an everyday basis.
My morning routine varies depending on how long it takes me to get out of bed after my alarm goes off, but let’s assume for the sake of this exercise that I’m well-rested with plenty of time to spare.
I have quite oily skin, so I always wash my face in the morning. I like to use a cream cleanser rather than a foaming one – at the moment I’ve got the Antipodes Grace gentle cream cleanser at the sink and the Trilogy Gentle Cream Cleanser in the shower (yes, I’m lazy). Most days I will follow that with a toner. Even though this Formula 10.0.6 product claims to be a cleanser, it’s really more of a toner, and I use it as such. I splash a few drops into the palms of my hands (so I don’t waste cotton pads, but also cos I’m lazy) and spread it across my face. It contains lactic acid (an AHA) and is alcohol free, so it gives a little bit of chemical exfoliation without drying out the skin.
The longer you leave the So Totally Clean cleanser-toner-thing on your skin, the more effective it is, so I let it dry while I get dressed before adding more products. I go in with a light layer of moisturiser – at the moment, the Sukin Sensitive Facial Moisturiser – and then top that off with sunscreen. Sunscreen is always an important step but it’s especially important if you’re using AHAs on your skin, as they make it extra sensitive to sun damage. At the moment I’m using the Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense.
I sleep with my mouth open, so by this point I will have already smeared lip balm all over my dry lips. Lately I’ve been using the Hurraw! Sun Balm, because it contains SPF 15. My eyes also get some attention, with an eye cream (at the moment, it’s Cosmedix Eye Genius) and a dab of LiLash lash serum at the roots of my top and bottom eyelashes. I didn’t think this was making a difference until two people commented on how long my eyelashes were looking – and they didn’t even know I was using a serum.
I keep the MAC Mineralize Charged Water spray on hand to refresh my skin and as an extra indulgent step. It also stops my makeup from looking too heavy if I accidentally go overboard with the powder.
The makeup desk
After all these invisible steps, now it’s time to put my face on. I don’t mind going out without makeup on, but I wear it every day to work. I’ll go through phases of wearing the same things every day, usually for about a month at a time. At the moment, it’s reddish-brown eyes and lots of bronzer, with a browny-nude lip. I’ll post about the individual products used in this look on Hyacinth Girl.
Huge thank you to Morgan for being a part of this series, don’t forget to head over to Hyacinth Girl to read all about the makeup she used! oxo
