Not sure if you’re aware of this, but LA Girl have been killing it lately. We’ve actually loved everything we’ve tried, so we were delighted to be sent a bunch of the new LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks.
There are 26 shades in the LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick (RRP: $12.99 NZD) range, and we are lucky enough to have 13 of them. They are super vibrant and pigment rich, with added shea butter to hydrate the lips and allow for a smooth application. Matte lipsticks have always been a little iffy on me, with my lips tending to be quite dry, so I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that overall these are quite creamy and comfortable to wear.
The first LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick we have is GLC801 – Ooh La La! which is a very pale nude. It would definitely suit complexions lighter than mine (I’m about an NC25 in MAC foundations for reference), but I think it’s probably a bit too nude for me and tends to give me that concealer lip look. It’s also a bit drier than the others in terms of texture, so make sure you exfoliate lips and apply a good lip balm beforehand.
GLC802 – Carried Away is a very, very pale light pink. It looks a bit ridiculous on me, but I reckon it would be great for creating ombre lip looks. Definitely not my favourite, and like Ooh La La, it has a drier texture than the others.
The next shade is GLC804 – Blessed. It is a gorgeous true pink that looks really nice on and would be flattering on a range of different skintones. One of my favourites, for sure.
GLC805 – Sunset Chic is a gorgeous peach lipstick that is just perfect for Summer. It looks really nice with a tan, but just as equally flattering on paler skintones. So pretty!
I’m not the biggest fan of a red lip, but I adore the LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick in GLC808 – Gossip. It’s a true red which isn’t too blue based, or too orange based – it’s just the perfect shade. It’s really nice and creamy too, which makes it easy to apply.
GLC810 – Bite Me is more of a burgundy shade, and is really pretty on. It’s definitely a bit of a statement, so if you’re a bold lip fan you’ll probably be all over this one.
The next one, GLC811 – Spicy is definitely out of my comfort zone, and is unlike anything else in our lipstick collection. It’s a dark warm-toned brown that is incredibly pigmented and creamy, and definitely stands out. I can see this being another popular shade for bold lip lovers!
One of the absolute must-haves from this range is definitely GLC812 – Snuggle. It’s the perfect brown nude, and would suit pretty much anyone. It’s super creamy and comfortable on the lips and would look great paired with any makeup look. Grab this one asap.
Pink lipstick fans definitely need GLC814 – Bliss in their lives. This dark pink is a serious stunner, and is really quite flattering considering how bright it is. If like me, you’d prefer a nice pink to a red lip, then you’ll love this.
GLC816 – Electric is a gorgeous blue-toned pink which I absolutely love. In my opinion, it’s very similar to MAC Candy Yum Yum, but obviously is a fraction of the price. Definitely worth adding to your collection.
Purples are always my favourites, and the LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipstick in GLC817 – Love Story is definitely everything I look for in an everyday purple lippy. It leans towards the pink side and reminds me of MAC Snob a bit if I’m honest, which I used to wear on the daily. If you’re into purples like me, then you have to make sure you get this.
The other purple is GLC820 – Love Triangle is more of a dark true purple, and is beautiful. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to apply as well as the others do, and it ends up looking a bit patchy. Nothing a bit of touching up can’t fix though!
GLC824 – Poetic is one of the more unusual colours in this collection, given that you don’t often find grey lipsticks. Not going to lie, I wasn’t really expecting to like this one – but surprisingly, I do! It’s weirdly not as unflattering as I expected, although I’m not sure if I’m quite ready to go out and rock this colour in public…. yet.
Overall I’m really impressed with these lipsticks. They wear pretty well throughout the day (5 hours on me so far), don’t have an offensive scent, and come in a huge range of colours. Infact, I actually really want to collect the rest of them!
If you want to see some of the other shades in the range, then make sure you head on over to CassandraMyee & Lani-Loves. Those girls are seriously amazing, and if you’re not already following their blogs – then make sure you do!
Have you tried any of the LA Girl Matte Flat Velvet Lipsticks yet? Which one are you lusting over?
